What’s wrong with capitalism?

Bijeenkomst in het Engels van de Groningse afdeling van de Internationale Socialisten over waarom je antikapitalist moet zijn.

Many of us have a sense that something is not right about the society we live in. We see wrongs all around us, growing poverty, enormous inequality, runaway ecological crises, a resurgence of fascism and the far-right, not to mention the corona-pandemic.

We sense, more than that, that these wrongs are unnecessary and irrational. A rational solution to the corona crisis would be a unified, global response; yet our responses, particularly in the West, regress further into nationalism. Moreover, we have known about climate change for years; yet corporations extract and pollute at increasing rates, and politicians allow them to.

In what sense are these issues and contradictions related to capitalism? On what basis can we say that they are bad or unjust? Answers to these questions get us further to understanding what is wrong about capitalism. And this understanding helps us better orient ourselves, but also provide reasons to others and expand the support for an alternative world – a socialist world.

In our first (online) public meeting of 2021, we will seek to delve into these problems and emerging questions. Our comrades, Emma and Jack, will provide an introduction. This will be followed by an open discussion where we can share our ideas and thoughts about the topic.

Join us on the 25/1 at 19:00 on Zoom.
