What is revolutionary socialism?
Wednesday September 28, 19:30, Sustainibily Hub
Horrible refugee policies pushed by our neoliberal government, people unable to find a home due to the privatized housing market, climate disasters fueled by the fossil fuel industry – these are only a few of the most recent crises brought upon us by capitalism.
However, with these increasingly visible disasters, we have also witnessed a huge rise in socialist ideas over the past decade, both in local activism and in political movements. Internationally, this has been represented by countless uprisings all over the globe that say loud and clear: “A different world is possible”. Movements to find alternatives to the neverending crises of capitalism have given left politicians like Corbyn and Sanders momentum, but ultimately their reformist campaigns failed.
Socialist ideas are also gaining popularity in the Netherlands
In this meeting we will give an introduction to the broad question of
“What is Socialism?”.
We’ll elaborate on the different historical traditions of socialism, visions for the future, and paths to get there. We’ll also address some key issues and clarify some common misconceptions regarding socialist ideas. If you are eager to learn more about socialism but feel overwhelmed by the diverse terminology and meaning surrounding it,
then this is your place to start!
The meeting will be in English, nonetheless, participations in Dutch are of course welcome!
As always, discussion is encouraged, however, we will not give a stage to racism, homophobia, transphobia, and other discriminatory views.
