Stop the far-right attack on trans people

Transphobia is on the rise in the Netherlands and abroad. Trans people’s participation in public life is under threat as they are scapegoated for the right’s conservative sexual politics. From Trump’s executive order against ‘gender ideology’, the UK Supreme Court decision about the definition of ‘woman’, to Orban’s ban on Pride. Also in the Netherlands, political parties such as NSC and the Christian fundamentalists of SGP campaigned successfully against laws that would make legal recognition of your gender easier, by using misleading arguments about the danger that trans people pose. The far right globally inspires each other to take further measures and drive wedges in queer-feminist movements against oppression. PRIDE month is the time to strengthen ourselves in the fight against the far right. Join this discussion to collectively analyse the attacks on the queer community and look for clear strategies to fight back.
In this meeting, we will discuss questions such as:
– why is the far right targeting trans people?
– how are these attacks related to the far right’s racist and misogynist politics?
– why are so-called ‘feminists’ siding with radical conservatives?
– how can we build a movement that opposes these attacks?
This meeting is a collaboration between Internationale Socialisten Groningen and Queer Pride Groningen, and will start at 19:00 (GMT+2) on the 26th of June upstairs at O’Ceallaigh Irish Pub.
The meeting will be in English, however, participations in Dutch are of course welcome!
As always, discussion is encouraged, however, we will not give a stage to racism, homophobia, transphobia, and other discriminatory views.
