Meeting through Zoom organized by the local branch of the International Socialists in Groningen. A socialist introduction to Palestine, pinkwashing and the proletariat.
We invite all comrades, friends, and political allies to join our introduction and discussion on the Palestinian cause.
The last month has seen a number of developments in the struggle for Palestinian liberation. Globally more people than ever have taken the streets to support Palestinian rights and call out the violence and injustice of the Israeli apartheid state. The movement for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) is gaining traction in the Netherlands with increasing amounts of support, also by scholars and the academic community. Internationally, harbor workers in the United States and Italy have refused to operate with Israeli shipments amid the relentless bombardment of Gaza. Even after the ceasefire which took effect on May 21st, protests and solidarity demonstrations continued to remind the world that there is no “normal” to return to, as the everyday reality of Palestinians continues to be one of apartheid, violence, and ethnic cleansing.
This reality stands in the context of 73 years of colonization and ethnic cleansing of the native Palestinian population in the name of the colonialist-settler project called Zionism.
Sometimes this project is advanced by military means, sometimes by ideological. Part of the ideological struggle of Zionism is the strategy of Pinkwashing. As it is Pride Month, we want to take time to discuss how Israel is painting itself as an LGBT paradise to divert attention from its human rights abuses and destroy solidarity with the Palestinian struggle among queer people.
On Monday we will talk about questions such as:
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐙𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦?
𝐈𝐬 𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞?
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠?
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬?
Zoom link will appear before the event.
The meeting will be in English, however, participations in Dutch are of course welcome!
As always, discussion is encouraged, however, we will not give a stage to racism, homophobia, transphobia and other discriminatory views.
