Greece at the border between EU neoliberalism and resistance
Whatever oppression in this society is always hidden under layers and layers of make believe, in Greece is sadly in plain sight.
The Greek state, part of solidar Europe, has in the previous years not only been pushed into enforcing heavy neoliberal measures to deal with the consequences of the crisis, it has also been forced into the role of gatekeeper of Fortress Europe, holding migrants stuck in open-air prisons like Moria in Lesvos.
What more, to enforce most of these policies has been Syriza, what was supposed to be the “leftist” party, the one elected precisely to fight against these policies
All of these intertwined horrors seem like bringing together a lot of the contradiction between the rhetoric and the sad truth of the capitalist system.
At the Barricade we want to use this Sunday to reflect together on these issues, and we’ve invited people from Reinform to come and talk about the situation in Greece, the failure of Syriza’s government to provide an alternative, how this deluded the anticapitalist Greek movement, and what are the current developments and sacks of resistance there.
