Filmavond: resistance is life

Movie night organized by the Amsterdam branch of the International Socialists on the Kurdish struggle for independence.
14 januari 2025 6:45 Pieter Nieuwland, Pieter Nieuwlandstraat 93, Amsterdam

We invite comrades, friends, and allies to a movie screening of “Resistance Is Life,” a documentary depicting the life of the 8-year-old Evlin, who escaped the terror of ISIS from the Kurdish village of Kobane in northern Syria. With the sounds of explosions in the background, we will see how she and those around her pray, sing, and persist in the face of a great tragedy. The film depicts many faces of resistance, civilian and military, including the women of YPJ, the Kurdish militia fighting in the region, who become Evlin’s heroes.

Let’s come together to look closely at the events depicted in the movie and the broader context of the Syrian civil war up until the recent fall of the Assad regime. As both the Kurdish and Syrian struggles deserve our ongoing attention, we invite you all to participate in the discussion after the screening.

⏱️ Start: 19:00 (walk-in at 18:45).
📍Location: Nieuwland; Pieter Nieuwlandstraat 93, 1093XN, Amsterdam.
💰FREE admission (donations welcomed).
