Antifascist movie screening and discussion.
We will screen the film directed by Ken Loach:
Land and Freedom (Tierra y Libertad)
The film narrates the story of David Carr, an unemployed worker and member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, who decides to fight in the Spanish Civil War for the republicans, a coalition of Socialists, Communists and Anarchists against a nationalist coup détat.
As a young party member he had gone to fight the fascists. He joined the POUM militia, which was allied to the militias of other left-wing groups. But the idealism of Davis was tested to its limits as their comrades were killed and the alliance disintegrated.
Was his struggle in vain?
